Good, cheap lunch catering for large group (400+)

  • 6

I've been asked to order lunch for 400+ employees this Friday and next, maximum $4/person, and I'm wondering if any of you have ideas for good, cheap catering downtown. In the interest of time, I ordered Jimmy John's (blech) for tomorrow, but I'm hoping to get something more inspiring next week.

La Loma is the best option I can come up with so far. Here's their catering site, to help folks who search this topic in the future: http://lalomatamales.com/?page_id=3. They do a make-your-own-taco set-up that sounds decent. Does anyone have any experience with their catering?

Any other ideas? I sincerely wish I could spend more than $4 per person, but alas - no.

  1. Wow, not a lot of notice you've been given to fulfill a pretty specific request. I have no idea how much some of these items serve, but maybe see if Kabobs in Bloomington can do anything for you?

Maybe Roosters can work with you? http://roosterbbq.com/

Argh. There's this barbeque place in St. Paul that Danny always recommends that I can't think of the name of right now. Here it is, but I don't think it will work... http://www.aesopstable.com/

    I suppose pizza would work...

Yarusso's is good for this kind of request though I'm not sure how last minute they can be, esp at $4 pp. http://www.yarussos.com/menu.htm#cate...

How about a banh mi place? That amount of bread could be a challenge last minute tho.

    1. The Little Oven has some items that would fit your price range, but they require 48 hours notice. Nevertheless, it can't hurt to call http://www.thelittleoven.com/Catering...

      1. I've ordered La Loma catered lunch for meetings and it's always really good and appreciated. I've both picked up the order at MGMkt and had delivery, but we're ordering for 10-20, not 400. Other places our group has regularly ordered from are Pizza Luce (I like their party-size lasagna + salad combo), Ghandi Mahal (picked up there), Broders (picked up there), Sawatdee, Erberts and Gerberts, and Chipotle.

        1. Thanks so much for the suggestions! I ended up ordering from La Loma for this Friday. Taco bar with different fillings (beef, chicken fajita, marinated pork) plus beans. You place the order online and they follow up with an invoice. They didn't have any qualms about filling this huge order on three days' notice. I'll let y'all know how it goes.

Three days notice is pretty good for this sort of thing, I think. I hope it works out. (I'm sure it will).

I've had them cater a taco luncheon for 200 people, and it was great. I hope you enjoy it as much as we did.
