Exciting News for Maui - Alan Wong Coming to Grand Wailea

I received this communication from the Grand Wailea:

"Alan Wong Comes to Grand Wailea

Grand Wailea and Chef Alan Wong toasts to a perfect pairing with the announcement of a partnership to open a restaurant at Grand Wailea. Well respected within the culinary industry, Chef Wong is known for merging various ethnic cooking styles and techniques into cohesive and tasty dishes highlighting locally-grown products. Chef Wong, one of the founders of Hawaii Regional Cuisine, will oversee the concept and menu creation for the restaurant.

Target opening date for is early 2012."

This will replace Kincha at the hotel.

I've never been to one of his restaurants, what are some of his specialties?

It's always exciting to have new fine dining choices on Maui.

Interesting.

I imagine that this fills in the closing of the AW location at the Four Seasons on the Big Island.

Being a big fan of AW, I look forward to trying this restaurant. Now, I have more reasons to stay on that "side" of the Island.

Dang, I hate the Grand Wailea. I wish he had gone to the Hyatt Regency or Honua Kai instead.

My favorites are “Mini Loco Moco”, Mochi Crusted Unagi Meat Loaf, Sunny Side Quail Egg, Wasabi Kabayaki Sauce; Richard Ha's Whole Tomato Salad Li Hing Mui Ume Vinaigrette; Twice Cooked Shortribs Soy Braised & Grilled "Kalbi" Style Gingered Keawa Nui Farms Moloka'i Shrimp, Ko Choo Jang Sauce or Steamed Shellfish Bowl Lobster, Dungeness Crab, Scallop, Shrimp and Clams, Roasted Garlic Smashed Potatoes, Baby Fennel, Bouillabaisse Style Broth, Chili Pepper Aioli.

The whole tomato salad is so good, the first time I had it, I could have cancelled my kalbi short ribs and ordered two more whole tomato salads for my main course.
