Banana Flowers Locally?

Sam Salmon Oct 26, 2011 05:12 PM

Banana Flower is one vegetable I've never tried and am reluctant to buy any without trying them in a restaurant first.

Can anyone here remember trying them in a local Thai place that I could visit?

TIA

Thien Kim on Nanaimo also uses it in their bum mam (seafood vermicelli in pickled fish broth)....sounds wierd but is absolutely delicious. It comes on a side plate with other garnishings that you add to the soup just before eating.

We had some lovely shredded banana flowers at Hoi An on Sunday.

My memory is shaky at the best of times, but I could've sworn Bo uses them in his pad thai.

Bo had them in a couple of dishes, but I haven't seen him use it in a while. Bob Likes Thai used them in a couple of dishes as well.

Come to think of it, I think I've had them at Green Lemongrass too, in that bowl o' noodles with chicken and quail egg.

Also at Song Huong - you can get shredded banana flowers with their bun bo hue.

Right you are (as usual!), fmed. The banana flowers also come in the bo 7 mon veggy platter, IIRC.
