Question for Athens, GA, Hounds.

Headed your way this weekend to, among other things, revisit The National and Five & Ten. Just noticed that something called The Last Resort Grill won in several categories (Best American, desserts, and brunch) in the most recent Flagpole reader's poll and was wondering if it is really all that?

Also: Anything new and exciting since we visited last fall?

Its not new since last fall, but if you haven't been to Farm 255 (or even if you have) you should definitely go! Its my can't miss place in Athens. Last time, I had dinner there Saturday night and brunch the next morning.

No, sorry, i haven't ever been to the Last Resort. One other fairly new place that I've heard good things about, but haven't been myself, is a tapas place called Flight.

Here's the report I promised:

BEST BREAKFAST: Mama's Boy (Though that "stuffed" French Toast would be a lot better if the peaches were sliced instead of beaten to a pulp.)

BEST BURGER & FRIES: Clocked! (The sweet potato fries, esp.)

BEST LUNCH: Ike & Jane Cafe and Bakery (Awesome breads and baked goodies.)

BEST BEER SELECTION: Trappest (And Five Points Bottle Shop is even better for take home.)

BEST ONE A.M. FREAK SHOW: The Grill (The food is pretty ordinary, but it does help soak up alcohol.)

BEST MEAL OF THE TRIP: Five and Ten (Exemplary from start to finish.)

MEH: Last Resort Grill

NEXT TRIP FOR SURE: Farm 255

Thanks for the report. Mama's Boy is one of my favs. Guess I can skip Last Resort. I do hope you will try Farm on your next visit. It won't make you forget Five and Ten, but its great.

Jeff, I wish I'd seen this question before but Last Resort is fine for brunch but otherwise nothing all that special. Even then, there are better places for same or equal money.

I think the new Farm chef is on top chef, right?

Not sure about the Farm chef. Maybe Notaslavetofashion knows.

I actually went to Last Resort for brunch. The service was s-l-o-w and the food was nothing special, IMO. (Mama's Boy was much better.)

I only ever order the duck hash at Last Resort and it's only been on Sundays.
