Where to go for lunch near Verona/Montclaire/Caldwell: Thai? Vietnamese?

Howdy Hounds,

I am new to the area and am looking to go out to lunch with some colleagues. Preferably something asian, cheap and delicious. Any suggestions? We are in Verona but Caldwell, Montclaire, and other areas nearby are all viable.

We did try Brick Lane for Indian on Valley Road in Montclair and it is very good. Keep in mind that it is small and I doubt you could just walk in on a Saturday night at 8.

It's not cheap, but I think Costanera (Peruvian) on Bloomfield Ave across from the movies is excellent.

We've eaten in most of the other restaurants listed and you received great advice!

I agree about Costanera. We went there for the first time a few months ago and really enjoyed it. Plus it's byo, always a plus.

True--and Flower Puppy, most places in Montclair are BYO if that matters.

85% of ALL New Jersey restaurants are BYO. Only exception in the State is Hoboken.

+1 for Chengdu 1! It's on the lower level of the Kings Super Market shopping center on Rt 23/Prospect Ave in Cedar Grove, right next to the now-closed movie theater (the closing of which hasn't seemed to have hurt them at all).

I like Tuptim on Bloomfield Ave in Montclair for Thai, Next Door (right near Tuptim) for their amazing burgers + pastas and salads, Stamna in Bloomfield on the Montclair border for Greek, and Ah' Pizz (weird name, I know) for awesome authentic Neopolitan pizza + salads and THE. BEST. CANNOLI. EVER.

I'm hearing great reports about Brick Lane Curry House in Upper Montclair. In that part of the world, there's also Four Seasons Kabob House for the obvious (great lunch specials) and Little Phil's, which is in the strip mall behind the Starbucks just off of Valley Road. It's a lovely little deli with sandwiches like prosciutto, arugula, and fig jam. Just sayin'. :-)

In short, you have LOOOOOTS of good options!

I suggest getting authentic Sichuan dishes at Chengdu 1 in Cedar Grove (just west of Montclair). They also have American-Chinese dishes if any of your colleagues want that, but I've never gotten that there.

I've had good-to-excellent experiences at Aroma Palace in Montclair for Indian.

If you can venture as far as Bloomfield, there is excellent, unusually authentic Thai food at Boonsong and at Brookside Thai.

in all seriousness Bangkok Kitchen in Caldwell is the best in the area. I highly suggest you try it for lunch, dinner or take out.

Great BBQ can be had at the Wood Pit, on the Eastern end of Montclair.

Or Indian. If you know of a great Indian place in the area, that would also be fantastic.
