Help needed with Paris reservations

I can't figure it out. We've been trying to reach Chez L'Ami Jean AND Chez Josephine Dumonet for almost a week and have been unable to get through to either one by phone. I know I have the right numbers but one of them is always busy; the other doesn't answer. we arrived in Paris this afternoon and would love to get through. Any advice from locals? Is this normal?

  1. It is sort of normal. Chez l'Ami Jean has become hard to get through. Last time I got through at 3pm when I figured the meal time chaos was winding down. Otherwise I usually call right before the start of meal service, at 11:45am or 7pm.
Or try to leave a message chez l'Ami Jean on Facebook.

    1. Or do a walk-by tomorrow mid-day.

      1. And then to reward yourself, get some ham at Bellota-Bellota on Rue Jean Nicot, next street over, and a macaron at Gregory Renard on Dominique, a block down from Rue Malar

Can we also nip into Michel Chaudun on the corner for a chocolate or two or? Come to think of it, why would anyone phone L'AJ when dropping by can be so delicious?

        2. Thanks all - got through to both finally. I don't dare admit what finally happened for fear of getting booted off chowhound forever (will report once we're safely home) but we're going to Chez Dumonet tomorrow night. So far so good.
