Business breakfast downtown: new possibilities?
I still belong to the same networking group which calls upon me to have a business breakfast with two other members at least once a month. So, are there new GOOD places downtown?
Here's what I know so far:
PDC: Good, but PRICEY,...
Pantry: crowded, noisy, it is what it is...same for Philipe's; neither conducive to much conversation below a yell..
The hotels: generally quiet (except for the Standard), but painfully overpriced...
Nickel Diner: guess it depends on what biz you think I'm in....
The chains (IHOP, Denny's) too depressing; if we at least had a NORM's, or Copper Penny, fer cryin' out loud....
Daily Grill: Doesn't do breakfast anymore.
Botegga Louie: SLOW service, and even at breakfast, mind-bogglingly loud...
So what else is around?

see the line referencing Pantry, above; I like their food, but their ambiance does not scream "business breakfast"....

Looks tasty, but they don't start til 8:30. Outside of Silverlake, who the heck STARTS serving breakfast at 8:30?

Farmer Boys makes up for them by serving 24/7/365

as does the Pantry. I'm old enough that I still remember Vickman's as a go-to breakfast place; IIRC they were open 2 am to 2 pm....
...and while I think Huyge ("Hyge"? "Hyuge"?) (That Danish place!) has great baked goods, they really don't have much of anywhere to sit and eat...

Hygge is what you're thinking of.
Yorkshire Deli? Probably not a vast improvement over the Pantry in terms of ambience but at least a change of scenery.
Engine Co. opens at 7:30

Sonia, I had no idea that Engine Co. 28 was open for breakfast during the week. Thanks for the info. Here is their breakfast menu: http://www.engineco.com/menu/breakfas...

I corrected the website link which wasn't working and changed the hours in the CH database box to reflect their website, which says that Homegirl Cafe opens at 7 AM Monday through Friday and 9 AM on Saturdays.

The Cafe at the Colburn School is quite decent for eggs and breakfast burritos and is run by the Patina group. It's quiet and spacious and open for breakfast Tues, Fri and Sat at 7. They have Peet's coffee.
I like to go there and pretend I'm on the set for Fame. I'm always secretly urging the kids to break into a raucous number around the tables.
It's a bit tricky to learn much info about it online, but here's a link to their lunch menu that also includes contact info: http://www.colburnschool.edu/uploaded...

Actually the Cafe at Colburn is run by Eurest, not Patina. I go to the Cafe for lunch sometimes and enjoy the quiet space, food is OK

I keep wondering what you meant by your comment regarding breakfast at the Nickel Diner? I really like their food. What business would one necessarily thought to be in to be eating breakfast there?
