Opinions on The Lion?

  • 2

I've seen some mixed reviews on The Lion since it opened last year, but still I find it very intriguing. The space looks really cool, Minetta Tavern-esque and the menu sounds great. Gnocchi with truffles, Lamb porterhouse, the Burger with pork belly, etc. all sound really great.

However, it seems like the place is hit or miss. Haven't seen any recent reviews since it first opened. It was my understanding that they were still working out the kinks so perhaps they are hitting their stride. Just wondering if anyone has been lately and the feelings have changed? Thanks.

  1. I was there in the spring, and honestly would not recommend it. It was one of the worst and most overpriced meals I have had in NY in a very long time. I had the gnocchi you reference, and it was so overcooked and mushy it was not edible. We also had a soft shell crab appetizer that was deep fried and so heavy, it could have been fried anything. Plus the scene was not cool or comfortable -- it was just pretentious and bad. I think you would have a much better experience at Spotted Pig, Freeman's or even DBGB.

Thanks for the feedback. It's a shame because it seems like it has so much great potential.
