Is Mississauga Road @ 401 a Dining Wasteland???

Staying at the Delta Meadowvale (6750 Mississauga Road between 401 and Argentia Road) next week for a couple of days. The area does not look promising for inspired dining but I don't want to be too quick to judge! Don’t know the area at all but wondered if there was some hidden gem within a short drive (Having such a place within walking distance would be too much to hope for I fear!)

Price is not an object but I will be accompanied by a colleague who isn’t the most adventuresome eater. He likes Italian, Mediterranean and may get him to branch out to Thai, but I’m unsure how much more I could push. We can go bit further afield if it’s worth a bit of a drive; but we are there to work and don’t have the luxury of the whole evening for a leisurely meal.

If there aren’t any bright spots, I’ll settle for your recommendations for just plain “spots”. I really appreciate any suggestions. Thank you for your time.

  1. the area is difficult for good food and you will have to drive. Do a search on "Streetsville" on Chow and there are a couple tips...bit of a little village feel and usually there are a couple decent spots. but you are in the burbs and, imo, the burbs is always a challenge.

J&J Thai is one of the best in the area. (walking distance)

Hinote Sushi the quality there is top notch. (10 minutes drive)

Eddie's Wok'n'Roll down the street is good hakka food. (5 minute drive)

      Caz's Fish-n-Chips is a good quick-n-dirty meal. (5 minute drive)

Gabriel's has good Italian food. (walking distance)

I haven't been to Walker's yet, but it is also supposed to be very good. (walking distance)

Hinote is "meh" at best. Try Kumai on Hurontario just south of Britannia(about 20min away).

Old school "big" breakfast is good at Bobby's Hideaway(Miss. Rd+Britannia).

Streetsville is the closest and best for evening meals.

I ate at Kumai once and find Hinote to be far better in terms of quality and value.

I guess we'll have to agree to disagree on this one.

    2. On Hurontario, just north of the 401 is Turtle Jack's. It's a chain, but one I've had success at. Good for non-adventurous types and foodies alike I think. Their meatloaf and mashed in particular are very yummy.

This is not far from where you are. Good luck!

      1. My wife works very close to the intersection you mention. Here is her response to your question:

Is Mississauga Road @ 401 a Dining Wasteland – YES because the area is a wasteland. It should be given back to the birds, the bees and other wildlife, not to mention farm animals.

But on to what you really want to know:

The Old Barber Houser – elegant and the food is good. The other restaurant people go to is Snug Harbour. Another one I went have eaten at isJJ Japanese & Thai – ok . Very close to the office. Lucy’s Seafood Kitchen is popular for casual meals and is very close as well.

        1. As others have mentioned, streetsville is a short drive away and has a several good restaurants. Bistro Chezanne is a wonderful French bisto; Cantina Mexicana has good mexican; and Old Barber House is slightly more formal cuisine. Hope you find something you like!
