Seeking quiet BYOW restaurant

Hello Montreal Chowhounders- you've never let me down!

My elderly, yet hip mum is taking out the McGill daughter and her roomies in a few weeks and is looking for advice for a Saturday night dinner. She'd like"'somewhere nice and quiet". What that means is she'd love to be able to engage in conversation with the young people without competing with huge crowds, music etc, and have a tasty, grown up meal. All types of cuisine are fine- she really is adventurous, as are the students. I'm thinking that she find a BYOW restaurant as the kids drink more wine than she might like to pay for! Mains should be within the 20-25$ mark. They'll use public transit, she has a car. All ideas gratefully accepted!

    Hi

Not sure if its too late to offer another suggestion but you could check out Coin d'Asie on Sherbrooke West in NDG. Mix of thai and vietnamese food. Very tasteful decor, quiet, with excellent service, BYOB (with a SAQ just down the street).

Perhaps Khyber Pass, as the food is interesting, or Bambou Bleu because the ambiance is nice and the food is okay and very inexpensive.

Restaurant Alex H is a great choice. You will find Cusine du Marche and a nice Plateau feel on Sherbrooke St in NDG.

I was going to say La Colombe, or even Madre, before I saw your budget restriction. BYO tend to be priced higher to make up for the loss of booze income. Cheaper BYo are mass-market BYO, hence noisy.

I haven't been in year, but I remember La Selva (862 Marie-Anne E., in Le Plateau, Peruvian food) being quiet, mainly because it,s fairly small, so your group decides on the noise. Food was good, nothing special, but good value for the price.

P'tit Plateau? Might be a tad higher than your budget, but not by much.

Grenadine without a doubt. There's like 20 seats so REALLY quiet. And it's BYOW and it's good.

The menu looks great, but the majority of the mains are just a tad high. It certainly would be an option when we, the parents, foot the bill, but it's a bit too steep for Nana. The 20 seats bit is right on the mark!
