21st Birthday in Downtown Toronto; Need recommendations

  • k

Hello everyone!

Need your help - I'm having my 21st in a month or so & was wondering where to have it. My last birthday was held at Joey's (at Shops at Don Mills) - great experience/fun atmosphere & they took reservations on a Saturday (big plus)! Before that was Everest (Queen Street West - not so great) & before that was 5th Elementt at Bay Street.

Okay - you get the idea, I hope. I like lounge-ish places or a restaurants with a bar area (like Joey's).
This time around I'd like to be more special - so headed downtown. I was thinking Earl's on King Street (I've been to the Square One location - liked it a lot). Will be headed to the Hilton or Royal York to celebrate some more .. so need something around that area.

Requirements:
- lounge/relaxed atmosphere
- 12-15 people (all 20 somethings)
- budget: $20 mains
- will be on a Saturday (so would prefer places that take reservations)
- any cuisine is fine, as long as it varies.. has different meat options (as some don't eat pork)

- if the decor is nice, that's a plus will be taking pictures to remember the night ;)

What about Sultan's Tent/Cafe Moroc? Spice Route?

  1. Based on your preferences, Earl's will be fine.

Have you ever been to Earl's? If so, how is it like? :)

very much like the square one location and joey's and cactus club and all of the incarnations that the former owners of fuller's have created and split off.

    2. Can't recall the menu prices (but you could check it out on-line), but we were at a special birthday celebration last year at Brassai on King St. Our group was 9 people. Food was very good and all enjoyed the dancing later on. Gets a bit crowded as the evening progresses, but I guess that's part of the fun.

Thanks - I'll check it out later tonight and let you know. There's dancing too? I love the idea!
        What kind of music?

When we were there last fall, the music at Brassai was the kind of stuff you would hear on KISS 92.5 -- current, popular songs.

One quick note about Brassai - it's a bit of an older crowd (late 20s, early 30s) at night, so may not be quite your scene if you're celebrating 21st birthday. Earl's is also a bit older (Bay street, finance crowd) but I think will be less so than Brassai.

      2. supermarket in kensington market is fun. good food, well priced. younger crowd and they'll take a reservation for a larger crowd.

Unfortunately, their kitchen only open till 10pm on Saturdays. Which doesn't work because we're hoping to be there much longer.

Supermarket may stop putting food out at 10pm but the drinks certainly keep coming till close. You should call and talk to someone as for a large enough group I suspect they could arrange for some snackables to arrive past the 10pm witching hour. The food is very reasonable for the quality and it certainly provides the dancing\club atmosphere for later in the night.

        2. Been to Earl's on King West its the place for you Miranda

places looks perfect. How would the service be on a Saturday night - with about 10 people?

              1. re: ks24

No idea - I've never been on a Saturday. Friday night service was just fine though. If you need food after 10pm, I'd call and verify.
