The same organization just announced that according to readers, the best wings in the city are at Buffalo Wild Wings.
I have no doubt that, should wings be important to anyone, there will be much to say about this.
But it points out what I was trying to say before: they let anyone vote in these polls, not just people who care about food as we do.
[For the sake of saying so, I like the wings at BWW. And of the runners-up listed that I have tried, there are none that I like as much, and at least one that I dont like at all. But I know that BWW is not the best in town.]

There is no doubt that a poll taken amongst Milwaukee Chowhounds would yield a much different list. Personally, I have never understood the love fot East Garden, and Ghengis Khan I find to be absolutely awful. But if people who dont care about food as much as I do enjoy themselves there, I'm OK with that as long as I'm not being forced into going along. (I happen to like Mayuri.) Such is also the case with all those who thought Red Lobster was a great place for seafood.
Another thing that might be considered: When was a buffet ever about quality as opposed to quantity?

re: Fydeaux
Hi Fydeaux,
I would agree that many times a buffet is about quantity over quality for some people, but I like the lunch buffet at Shahrazad because of variety not quantity. I can enjoy a little bit of everything whereas if I ordered off the menu I would get too much of just one thing.

re: Fowler
Yo, Fowler--
I certainly agree; I like Mayuri for much the same reason. Even at a not-so-good buffet, one can also sample items that they arent familiar with and might not risk ordering off of a menu (this is how I was introduced to and came to love kimchee).
And I confess that I am not completely immune to the lure of quantity. I used to LOVE the weekend breakfast buffet at Big Boy if only because I could have as much bacon as I could carry.
I have not been to Harbor House, but it appears that you have, and have issues with the place. Can I ask what they might be? [I have family members interested in going there.]

Hi Fydeaux,
Sorry if I gave you the impression that I had issues with Harbor House. I do not have issues with them and my point was that it is not the best. Good? Yes. Nice view? Definitely. But not the best regardless of what the readers and hack "food critics" over at OMC think. I would take your opinion or another 'hounds opinion over that of the vast majority of people on OMC any day.
Had to laugh about the Big Boy comment. Very funny!

Well, it's limited to places that even HAVE a lunch buffet.
Which do you object to - the readers' pick (Maharaja), the editors' pick (Mayura), or both? And which do YOU think is the best lunch buffet in town?
This article is part of a series in the dining section - best this, best that, etc - each of which has a readers' pick and an editors' pick. The way such articles go, a readers' pick is usually a place that is well-known and popular, not necessarily the best (and sometimes even a place that many people hate while many others love).

I do remember that at one time the "people" also voted for Red Lobster as the best seafood in Milwaukee. Personally, I like Maharaja, but there are several on the list that I found to be sub-par and will not return to.
My favorite is not on the list - and I will be obstinate and not mention them by name since they have been "discovered" and it is now very crowded during lunch. If they needed the publicity I would have named them.....

That's antithetical to the whole purpose of Chowhound - to let your fellow Chowhounds know about the best places around. :(

re: exvaxman
Withholding a name seems an odd way show your appreciation for a great restaurant. In essence you are playing a part in stunting their prosperity. They may very well have that without you, but you are still playing a part in selfishly trying to show that you are "in" while others are not.

In most of the series, the readers' pick is different from the editors' pick. Since seafood has been mentioned here, it's worth noting that the seafood article is one in which readers and editors agree, both picking Harbor House for the best seafood in town: www.onmilwaukee.com/dining/articles/b...
