UPhill alert! Lucky Kitchen, East Side, Providence

  • 1

My wife and I's least favorite local chinese used to be Hot Wok on Hope Street. Barely edible in our two visits.

Some time about a year ago the name and awning changed to Lucky Kitchen. Some new hope on Hope perhaps for those not enamored with Apsara Palace's long lines, nasty attitude, or very early closing time? Not so, a friend said who lives nearby, "They only just changed the sign."

Well, one night I was coming home late from work around 10:30, craving Chinese. Apsara and Gold Stone were closed and I am not a fan of Iron Wok or Shanghi, so, hearing from friends it was improving, I decided to give Lucky Kitchen a shot.

In short, it was great! Everything tasted fresh, flavorful, and even had kick. The near equal of Gold Stone. I tried it again and asked my wife to guess where I got it (she loved it), and she was shocked. A third time with takeout was equally consistent.

This is definitely worth takeout fans in PVD trying, especially to reward their being open later hours. Let us know what you think!

BTW: on the downhill note, very sadly, we've had three very mediocre meals in a row from former favorite Red Ginger in Johnston. "What happened?" asked my sister at the last meal...

  1. We will have to give it a try. I am not a fan of Apsara on Hope, and our usual favorite for chinese is Lucky Garden in North Providence. We tried the new Jackie's Waterplace, and I was not impressed by the food, also the service and the view is lovely. Sushi was meh also...
