Cheap Eats near California Pacific Medical Center?

Hi all,

Husband and I have some time between appointments at Cal Pacific Medical Center (on the corner of Sacramento and Maple) next Wednesday and looking for any ideas for inexpensive great lunchtime places within short walking distance? We'll have about an hour for lunch. Looking for someplace no more than 4-5 blocks away.

Gracias!

I have a friend who lives in that neighborhood who eats there frequently. I believe there is some ownership relation with the group that runs the La Boulange cafes, so they should have some nice bread and pastries.

Yes, it's another Pascal Rigo outpost. It's fine and is cafeteria style, so fast.

A few more blocks would be Clement and Arguello area, where you'd have more choices. Le Soleil on Clement and 2nd is solid Vietnamese.

Pancho's Salsa Bar & Grill on Geary @ Stanyan. Good Mexican food for the area.

Without a doubt, Delfina Pizzaria on California at Fillmore. Salads, pasta, and of course, pizza. SF classic

I love Pizzeria Delfina, but the hospital shemeansmo is asking about is not within walking distance. It's the old Children's Hospital, not the California Pacific campus on Clay.

Dolce & Salato on Sacramento at Locust is a great little place. It's not dirt cheap, but you can get a sandwich and soup or salad for $10.

Rigolo is very good - salads, sandwiches, etc. and it is pretty quick. Dolce and Salato, as someone mentioned, is great too - panini's, salads, soups, etc. Also in Laurel Village is Asqew Grill (on California at Laurel), which has good salads with grilled meats, and Pasta Pomodoro (on California at Spruce) isn't bad - I get a steak salad there that is pretty good. All of these options are about a 5 minute walk from CPMC. Good luck!

Beg to differ about the overcooked chicken and tough beef at Askew. Rigolo is tasty.

Sorry you have had a bad chicken experience. For the price and convenience, I don't think it is that bad.

Mandalay Restaurant on California St & 5th Ave or so is good Burmese. I like it better than the more popular Burma Superstar

The "avenue blocks" are much shorter than the "street blocks" (going between CA & Clement & Geary so it's not much further than the Clement St spot Le Soleil Windy mentions

Thanks everyone for the recs. Ended up at Rigolo and it was an adorable place and delicious food. Went into Dolce and Salato to check things out and it looks great. Will prob eat there next time we're out that way.

not by any standards a cheap lunch, but the lunch menu at spruce is an absolute bargain compared to dinner and the quality is still there unlike other high-end places that skimp on their lunch menu
