YXTA closed on Sundays: Need other Mexican recs (btwn downtown & WeHo)!
We really wanted to check out YXTA, the downtown Mexican place recommended for good margaritas and decent Mexican food at reasonable prices. But they're closed on Sunday.
Any other recommendations for Mexican places between downtown and WeHo (that are similar to YXTA)?
Thanks!

Try Mas Malo Downtown or Malo in Silver Lake or Loteria in Hollywood. But yeah, strangely it's still not that easy to find edible Mexican food and good margaritas in the same place.
Or for something a little different, maybe Guelaguetza and the new mescal bar? Don't know if it's open on Sunday though.-----

re: Chowpatty
Thanks, Chowpatty! Yeah, the Mexican food doesn't have to be GREAT... just good enough.
Do you have any thoughts on LA PARILLA, BARRAGAN'S or EL CONQUISTADOR? Any places I should definitely stay away from (for fear of food poisoning)?
I was also considering EL CHOLO downtown... but they make you valet-park for $4.50, which is annoying.

re: Liquid Sky
I would have recommended Playa or Rivera but you said reasonable prices, so...no.
La Parilla probably has the best food of the three you mentioned, not sure if they have a full liquor license though. Food at Barragan's can be ok, it's worth a try. Of the three I would fear El Conquistador the most. Same goes for El Chavo and El Compadre.-----

re: Liquid Sky
Hmmm, of the three La Parilla I would say is the best, and they make tortillas, but it's not good. IMO Barragan's is sort of a bad joke, OK before or after a Dodger game, but hardly edible. El Conquistador is great if you want to be in and out in ten minutes flat (I don't exaggerate.) The food is not worth mentioning but there is serious kitsch.

re: cls
El Conquistador has the best mole I've had in a long time. Just the right heat and smooth, nutty, spicy, chocolate. It's true, they brought our entrees before clearing our salad plates, but other than that, we weren't in a hurry and didn't feel rushed. Can't speak for the rest of the menu, but I would definitely return for the mole.
