Restaurants in or near Toms River

Help! I know this is short notice, but it's our anniversary today (10/21) and we've had to cancel our plans to attend a wake and a funeral this weekend in Toms River. We are staying overnight in a hotel, and would like a nice kid friendly place for dinner after the wake. An Italian, Greek, or French bistro type of place would be great. We love good food (who doesn't) but with the kids along, need something casual. If it's a BYO, that would be awesome as we have already selected our wines and bubbly for the evening! Thanks!

Thanks for everyone's suggestions. We ended up at Enzo's Cafe Italia on Rt. 37. It was great. Our waiter Nick was more than accommodating to us and our to kids. The food was good, and the setting was casual and welcoming. Thanks again!

Very curious about Caffe Italia and would greatly appreciate any details. I see it's almost at Barnegat Bay; I don't think I've ever noticed it before.

Thanks! I've to pet/house-sit for my parents next month and might try it then.

My parents live in River City, and for a town of such size (over 90,000 people), the restaurant pickings have always seemed surprisingly sparse, aside from the usual suburban chains. My favourite local eatery was actually the Afghan kebab joint, but that's closed.

Tuscan House looks and feels like a chain, but apparently isn't? Anyhow the Italian-American food there was better than I expected. They've their own wine list, however.

Very curious where better-informed locals might suggest. There are quite a few respectable restaurants in neighbouring Monmouth County.

+ 1 for Tuscan House. While it's not a chain, it is owned by the same people that own Tiffany's on 37. The food at the Tuscan House is pretty decent and the setting is more than appropriate for families. Be warned however that Tuscan House has a liquor license. Other recommendations for Italian would be Villa Amalfi and Caffe Italia. As for Greek food, the only one in the area is Athen's Grille in the Stella Plaza (a strip mall with two other very good restaurants Ja Rock (Jamaican) and El Familiar (Colombian/Mexican)). It's been a while since I've been to Athen's Grille but at the time the food was good. As for French food, you are out of luck in Ocean County. IMHO, the best restaurant in Toms River is Siam Spice which serves some of the best Thai food in the state. Other family friendly restaurants (with fair/mediocre food) are : Tiffany's, Water Street Grill and Artisan's. Good Luck.
