New (?) Toscanini flavor

calisson Oct 20, 2011 06:23 PM

I just tried their Salty Caramel ice cream. I found it far superior to Batch's Salted Caramel, and especially good with chocolate chips on it (they had to go to the back to get them for me). I have been a fierce B3 devotée, but Salty Caramel is slightly less sweet (a plus) and maybe a tad less rich (another plus).

Mash-up of brown sugar, brown butter and brownie.

It's been around for at least a year or two, but it IS delicious, and I agree that it's one of the best versions of this flavor I've tried. It doesn't top B3 for me though. Maybe if the Salty Caramel had brownie chunks in it...

Sure. But is it better than half-B3, half-nocciola?

I think I OD'ed a bit on B3, though it is an amazing flavor, made even better by a sprinkling of coarse salt. I found that the chocolate chips that were added to the Salty Caramel achieved the same ends as the brownie chunks in B3. I have never tried mixing B3 with Nocciola--that sounds pretty good!

wait, is salty caramel different than my all time favorite flavor, burnt caramel? i'm guessing yes.

Burnt caramel w/banana foster... awesome. Burnt caramel with any booze flavored ice cream... also awesome.

Was not crazy about the burnt caramel. My bad, though - should have asked for a taste first, but there was a bunch of school kids next to me, so I figured they had their hands full. Saw the salty caramel though & almost got that - next time... I loved the hazelnut chocolate though. Perfect!

I also would like to know the answer to twentyoystahs question, which I think is still unanswered....is the salty caramel different from the burnt caramel?

I was pleased to discover yesterday that the wort ice cream has returned (it's made from roasted malt from the Cambridge Brewing Company)!

They make really good quality ice cream (i.e. fatty and with varying sweetness levels that match the overall flavor profile). The flavor choices would just be a gimmick if the quality weren't so high. This is a problem at many other ice cream shops.

I totally agree, Luther. Excellent quality - and I despise overly sweet ice cream.

                    Need a Toscanini fix... mmm...
