My 1st review: Coco Rogue Chocolate Lounge

My 1st ever review on chowhound, hope you like it!

My girlfriends decided to take me to Coco Rogue for my bachelorette party, and boy, did we have fun! It's just south of Yonge & Eglington (just south of Art Shoppe), so it's quite convenient.

We went on a Thursday night (Oct 6), and although it was not packed, it wasn't empty either. Decor is Modernly Elegant - with a grand piano and a beautiful chandelier, it's a perfect setting for a date or a girls night out. Think 50's glamour crossover with 21st century minimal-sleek decor. Their use of textures (on walls, on chairs) really keeps this place from being too stark or plain! (um.. i'm an interior designer..) We all loved the fireplace - mounted higher up on the wall to avoid the need to have a special seating spot in front of it - smart!

They have some table & banquette seating on the ground level (for 6-12 groups or so), plus a upstairs level with TV & couches (for 4-6 groups, depending on size). We were seated upstairs on couches, which turned out well coz we ended up being pretty noisy!

We ordered off the menu as suggested by Steve (Manager, I think!) - a sampler platter of all 4 of their in-house-made chocolates. I was never a fan of white chocolate, but their's was so good, and not the usual super sweet kind! (All 4 of their chocolates are very unique and I can say that I've never tasted them before!) For drinks, we ordered a bottle of napa valley sparkling, which goes really well with the white & milk chocolate. I also tried their Tiffany martini, and Chocolate martini, which were both equally amazing. The tiffany martini seems to be Hpnotiq based (yumm), and the chocolate martini was surprising not sweet, but extremely coco-y. Love them both!

At this point, i was happily tipsy, but still remembered that we were treated to a free "12:21am on Thursday before thanksgiving" tradition shot - of chocolatey liqueur of course! We had a great time, and thanks to Steve & Bruce for providing a great explanation of their chocolates - from where it's sourced, to how it ends up in our tummy. (sorry, i forgot the details now!).

(and if you were there that night, sorry we were so noisy!)

    Thanks for posting a review.
The space and concept reminded me a bit of Moroco in Yorkville but without the truffle counter. I was hoping for a serious dessert place with a tasting menu, instead it felt like a bar which offered desserts. We had been shopping all day and I wasn't particularly dressed up. I didn't expect there to be a lounge singer and a glitzier crowd. For a girls night out, I can see how this would have been perfect. The upstairs room feels like a private room. It wasn't what I was after. In the end I only had a hot chocolate, which was ok, but far from the best I've had, so I can't really judge the food. Given that the chef had studied chocolate making in europe for three year, or something like that, I had different expectations. Maybe I misread the place, but it feels like the weekend Yonge and Eg crowd is what they are after.
