Rome on Christmas Day?

  • 4

My wife, 3-year-old daughter and I happen to be arriving in Rome on Christmas Day, and I'm trying to find a good restaurant that'll be open then (and, you know, suitable for a young family with a toddler). For what it's worth, we've got an apartment over near Termini, but are of course pretty mobile. And my Italian is decent, too, though far from fluent.

Any recommendations?

  1. Closer to the time, local newspapers will publish lists and some kind soul, such as Katie or Vinoroma, usually relays a summary here. Don't despair. There are places open, but not many.

Great! I will be patient. Any truth to the rumor that restos in the old Jewish ghetto stay open?

hi worldmatt! i will indeed be publishing a list on Parla Food and will repost it here. it will probably go up around the first week in december. the places in the ghetto do tend to be open around christmas but you can get MUCH better food elsewhere.

if you want to start planning, you might want to look into these places, whcih usually have the same schedules every year. however BIG WARNING!!! this is last year's list cut and pasted from my blog! it's just to give an idea of what you may find:

All’Oro is open at dinner on the 24th and at lunch on the 25th.

Casa Bleve is open the 24th at lunch and dinner.

Da Danilo will be open for lunch on the 24th and 25th.

Il Pagliaccio is open on the 24th for dinner only and the 25th only at lunch. There will be a €155 prix fixe menu.

L’Angolo Divino is open the 24th at lunch and at lunch and dinner on the 25th.

Palatium will be open the 24th for lunch.

Roscioli will be open the 24th for lunch.

    2. a fine bakery, which sells all manner of specialty and day to day breads and prepared foods in Panella - Arte del Pane is on via Merulana, not that far away - we bought from them on Christmas a few years ago, and had a lovely take out meal in our apartment, as well as some very fine (and pricy) pannetone and gubana. A good way to start out your stay in a low stress way. Follow the attached link to their website - I think they are open 7 days a week currently
