Any word on Masak?

I was really intrigued to see a Malay/singaporean restaurant opening in the East Village. Has anyone tried this place yet?

Particularly their takeout/delivery options?

  1. Went for dinner with a friend, really enjoyed the cocktails but wasn't really wowed by the food. It's vaguely Singaporean/Malay influenced, with some tasty bites but nothing I'd return for.

    1. My experience was the same as maggiej's. The chili crab dip is like thick, spicy tomato soup with crab and some fried mantou. The foie gras quih pie tee is nice, the seafood entrees are good, but there's no wow there, just decently executed food that doesn't offend. The thing I liked the most is the sparkling limeade, but that's not enough to make me come back anytime soon.

        1. Any recent reports? Menu looks interesting, but obv won't be that great if the flavors are toned down.

          1. I just went last night for cocktails. We only had bar snacks though (chips in a belacan sauce), so I can't really speak to the food, though it smelled good. We really enjoyed all of our cocktails though (thoughtful ingredients, interesting combinations, good balance, well made, not too sweet), and the bartender was great. I felt bad though as the place was kinda empty - two, maybe three tables of diners and that was it (on a Thursday night). I hope they survive as its a great little place to drink. I'll have to go back for food.
