Pizza Delivery recs

4maxwelz Oct 18, 2011 05:13 PM

I know that MSP has great pizza. However, I always struggle to find good delivery pizza. We are going to be in town before flying out to Vegas, and we're planning to do pizza & beer at our hotel (494 & France) the night before. Who should we call (non-chain, please) for delivery?

Frankie's Pizza and Green Mill are both good

You're not in a good area for food. However, if you have a car you could get a pizza to-go at Fireside Pizza on 67th & Penn in Richfield. It's just northeast of 494 & France. If delivery is the only option, then I would definitely go with Broadway Pizza. It's a local chain but very good stuff. There is a Broadway Pizza on 75th & Lyndale, one just north of 494 that probably delivers to your hotel. A third delivery option would be American Pie Pizza.

It looks like it automatically linked to American Pie's Minnetonka store, but the one that is in Richfield delivers to Bloomington and Edina (494 & France)

Another one is Carbone's. Small chain, but the delivery food is good. Get the thin crust, it is great (for delivery). The Nokomis (Cedar and Minnehaha) should deliver to hotels on the strip (I would think).

If a car is available, I'd make the ~5 mile drive to Lola. It's better than any delivery option you'll find.

If you don't have a car, see if Davanni's will deliver. Another local chain, but probably my favorite of the possible choices.

Love the Weimaraner on the Lola website! We'll need to dine in at Pizzeria Lola sometime.

I haven't had it personally, so can't really vouch for it, but others on this site have had good expierence with Di Noko's, and it looks like they deliver to that general area. If you want deep dish, this may be a great option.

I second Di Nokos. I tried a chicago deep dish a few weeks ago. Delicious. Very good. Try it if they'll deliver.

+3 on Di Noko's. I don't know about their deep dish, but the traditional and flat are very good, especially the whole wheat crust.

On Lola - unless you're in the Lola neighborhood, I don't see the allure. I've eaten there a dozen times. On the plus side, they have Surly on tap, and sitting at the bar watching them sling pizzas into the copper Panyol oven, especially on a winter evening, is fun. But on the negative side - their pizzas are very good, but overpriced (for the quality/cost as compared to Black Sheep and Punch, which are as good if not better, for the same price); and the wait is ridiculous. That's largely based on their clientele - on any given night, 1/2 their tables are a couple + kids. Table turnover is slow. If you're going to drive to Lola, might as well drive to Black Sheep,. Or go to Biga on Chicago, which has zero wait, and cheaper pizzas that are as good. Lola does have inventive pizzas, though - the breakfast is excellent. The kimchi is gimmicky, and just OK.

Yes, go for the Deep Dish.

I work in the area, and the delivery places that we get from are the following (in order of preference):

              1) Frankies Pizza (10506 France Avenue South, Minneapolis, MN 55431)
              2) Davanni's Pizza (8605 Lyndale Avenue South, Bloomington, MN 55420)
              3) Cheetah Pizza (5125 Edina Industrial Boulevard Edina, Minnesota 55439) <- mainly for the buffalo chicken pizza, just so-so pizza otherwise if you ask me.

Just tried D Noko's last week, had it delivered (live close/Nokomis). OMG, best pizza, totally fresh veggies, the sausage is great, crust is great too. The sauce is what I love on that pizza, has a nice little kick to it. They also cut it in squares.
