Need to buy gross ile gift certificate - DTW

I want to buy a take out meal for a family who lost their mom. They live on Grosse Ile in Michigan. Any suggestions? They could pick up or get delivered.

  1. First, I am sorry for their loss.

There's not much on the Island. Only place I've eaten at there in the last 20 years is the Airport Inn. I got a pizza there last year. It was so-so, and I had to wait maybe an hour. I'm OK with waiting for food, but this was a ridiculous wait, especially since I was the only people eating in at the time (5 p.m. or so on a Saturday when I walked in). Several people called in pizza orders and picked them up while I waited, which only added to my hungry displeasure.

Just across the Free Bridge in Trenton is Sibley Gardens, which has the best chicken parm Downriver in my book; I've been ordering it on special occasions for 20+ years. They do carry out/meals-to-go, too. I can't say I've ever had a bad meal there. You can basically see the Island from their parking lot, too--well, you could if the abandoned steel mill wasn't there.

I say go with Sibley's. It's really, really good food, and they've got a good reputation Downriver for special occasions.

    1. Another suggestion is Lloyd's, on the island. It's a little more casual than Sibley's, more pub-style food like burgers, sandwiches, fish and is something of a local institution.

      1. Thanks; I'll look for both.
