Suggestion for a French Restaurant for Dad's 70th Birthday Celebration - 30 ppl
Hi, I am in NYC and would appreciate suggestions on a French Restaurant in or around LA that has a private room and/or can be rented out for my dad's 70th. We are expecting 30 guests and have a budget of about $5000 (flexible). Thanks!

My first choice would be the Olivia Room.
But when is this event going to take place? I ask because Maison Giruad should be open soon. They will have a private room - but not sure if it will fit 30. But they might be just do that in the main room as it is not a huge restaurant.
If you're not familiar with the chef Alain Giraud - punch his name into Google. He's very well known in L.A.

Thanks! I'll look into that. My parents now tell me the size will be more like 22-23 so maybe Maison Giruad would work as well.
Event is to take place Saturday January 7th. (Not sure if I'm planning too far ahead but since it's a Saturday night I thought it better to be safe.)
If you could suggest any other nice/fine dining LA restaurants with a private room for 22-23 (not necessarily French) that'd be great. Thanks!

Check with Saam at the Bazaar and see what they tell you about a group your size. If you want to see a couple of excellent photo reviews of meals there then click on these links to get your saliva flowing: http://www.kevineats.com/2009/04/saam-at-bazaar-los-angeles-ca.htm and http://tangbro1.blogspot.com/2010/01/...

Maison Giraud will definitely be open by then. And I think that room can do 22-23. (you can get in touch with him via his website). He was the chef at Bastide when it got **** from Irene Virbila form the LA Times - the first time she gave **** to an L.A. restaurant.
Providence should also be on this list (up there with Melisse) - they have a variety of rooms to choose from.

At that price point, I would see if you could rent out all or half of Melisse for a night. There is no better French restaurant in the city, and the amount per person you've budgeted is above its regular four-course menu.
