NEW Breakfast/Lunch spot in Sarasota

The recently opened "Toasted Mango" cafe on Tamiami Trail just north of Fruitville Rd. is a great addition to the restaurant scene in Sarasota. Owned by 2 veterans of another well known place on St Armand's Circle; Sandy and Kim are wonderful at making everything the best it can be. Service is very good and the menu is creative, but not so way out that you don't know what a dish consists of, for example Homemade Corned Beef Hash is excellent as well as the Eggs Benedict made with local eggs delivered daily, for a healthy start try the "Breakfast Banana Split", waffles, omelets, such as the Gulfside with bluefin crab, shrimp, fresh spinach, tomato, and jack cheese, or the "Sandi's Spicy Special" fresh muffins everyday, etc. Lunch is top notch too, my fav is the Sarasota BLT and the "Debbie", a house roasted turkey, jack cheese, with 1000 island then grilled on marble rye! There are several tables outside under an ancient Oak tree.

There is only one really good and well known spot on St. Armand's, they have another loc. on Longboat Key.......The Blue Dolphin Cafe.
BTW was at the Toasted Mango with 3 others this A.M had a Spicy Sandi Omlet, the potato side was a potato pancake served with apple sauce, the omlets are cooked in individual omlet pans, (as opposed to on the flat grill), and the potato pancake was cooked to order. At about 9:30 the place was humming with customers.

Stopped by Toasted mango today. Very disappointed. I tried the toasted mango waffle. It was very ordinary. Okay the mango was fresh but the waffle was meh. Wife tried the seafood omelet which again was ordinary. It had baby shrimp and very little crab. If you want to stand out from all the rest of the breakfast places you have to do better. A tiny bit of crab is not going to do it. Potatoes, forget it dry and absolutely no flavor. I won't return. There are many other breakfast places that are much better.

Leave the seafood omlets to the snow birds; Try the Sandi Special omlet or the homemade Corned Beef Hash, also the daily specials include really good Blintzes, House Roasted Pork, also they are very accomodating and are receptive to your requests. I had huevos Rancheros with steak one morning!! Also they try to purchase as much local produce/dairy/eggs/etc. as they can find. Eggs from Sutter Farms, dairy from Daikin Dairy, produce from various Sarasota/Manatee County growers.

Osprey- Please try the seafood/lobster omelet at The Breakfast house. Chunks of lobster. The use the knuckle and claw which is much more tender than the tail.

I tried The Toasted mango and will not go back. It reminds me of all the other average breakfast places like the Broken egg and Peaches. I do rate First Watch one step up because they have wheat germ pancakes.

If i'm spending 30-35 bucks for breakfast I will go to the breakfast house.
