food presents from Madrid

Would anyone have suggestions of food presents (such as ham or cheeses that will knock your socks off) I could bring back to a friend in the US from Madrid, and where I could buy them? I´m thinking of things maybe in the 30 to 50 euro range that would comfortably fit inside my luggage, and could stand being unrefrigerated for 2 or 3 days. Thanks!!

As meat is illegal, no but you can still get the ham in the States as with Ortiz seafood, ventreche wonderful. Perhaps some pimenton from Extremadura or Tazo from Gallicia, both available everywhere .

Such a pity about the meat products tho'.... we don't fly directly back to North America so I usually buy a dozen packs of Joselito or 5J jamon iberico de bellota for friends and relatives from the Gourmet Club at El Corte Ingles. Each pack is about 17 euros and the recipients are very happy with their gift. For variety's sake, I get some lomo (pork loin) and chorizo too.

The canned seafood is convenient and delicious. I wish I had some right now...

For sweet-lovers, you could consider convent sweets or candies/teas from La Violetta.

You are forbidden to bring meat products into the US. One cheese to consider is the luscious Torta del Casar from Extremadura, which comes whole in a round wooden box that is easy to transport.

Olive oil in a tin would also be easy to bring home. Saffron makes a great gift for a cook. Ventresca tuna fish in a tin or jar, along with other fancy seafood conserves.

There is a long thread about food shopping in Spain here:

Erica and Aleta, thanks for the excellent advice!! I appreciate it a lot, and if the truth be told, I intend to take back a few of the treats you´ve suggested for myself as well.
