Tropical, Hawaiian, Polynesian Venue Needed

With a heavy heart I must ask my SD hound friends for help finding a place to have a memorial service, or wake in North County SD, for about 50 or so guests. My beloved brother-in-law loved Hawiian food and tropical decor, and we would like to have a gathering to celebrate his too-short life in a enviroment that will remind everyone of the recurring themes of his life.

Tropical theme is not completely necessary, but we are looking for an uplifting or beautiful spot, not just a drab room. Hotel banquet rooms or restaurant private rooms, or any suggestions you all might have would be greatly appreciated. Thank you very much.

      Thanks to all for both the replies and the sympathy. I will pass these venues on to my MIL, and she can decide what we will do.

      And to you, Fake Name, and all the respondants to my request, I do not at all feel you are strangers. I have followed the LA, SD(since it's relatively recent inception) and California boards regularly for at least 15 years. I know you are all regular contributers here lately, so I feel as if I do know you. Besides, we are all members of a family, you know, the Chowhound family. Again, thank you all for the kind replies.

        I know nothing about it, but Roy's Hawaiian Fusion in UTC may be worth checking, and closer to North County
        Condolences to you and the family.

          +1 on Roy's in UTC. They also have a large private room that should fit your party pretty comfortably. The room is tastefully decorated, isn't sterile and doesn't feel like a cave. Food is pretty good. Recently had a kalbi short rib w/ kimchi over rice that was very tasty.

          I'd skip Peohe's, unless they've dramatically renovated their menu and cooking lately.

                This one's easy.

                The Bali Hai.

                I've attended a memorial service there and it was excellent- exactly what you're seeking.

                And please accept the condolences of a stranger.

                <arrgh. North County. Sorry- I got nuthin>
