ISO Resto Supply store not- Tap Phong,GTA area

chunkeymonkey Oct 15, 2011 07:10 PM

I have a love hate relationship with Tap Phong. I love it because their prices are cheaper than
other supply stores downtown, and they seem to have everything that you will ever need for your kitchen, but with that said because they have everything it is soo overcrowded, isles are small and claustrophobic and some of their items seem of low quality like their bamboo steamers and glassware.

I would like to know Is there anywhere around the GTA with as good prices as Tap Phong ,more spacious and maybe better quality?

CCK at the north end of Pacific Mall, has Japanese knives, cleavers, woks, and accessories, all hand made and well priced, although haggling is possible. The light weight cleavers have a cult following, and are hard to get elsewhere. Well worth a trip to Warden and Steeles, but note limited hours as there is typically one clerk in the shop, 11-7 PM closed Sunday.

I'm sorry that I failed to mention that I am looking for a restaurant supply store that sells more asian cookware, like bamboo steamers, and tableware, knives, etc.

Thanks Jayt90 I will Check that shop out in P-mall.Speaking of P-mall, Does anyone remember the Japanese store that sold tea sets and Japanese tableware beside the arcade on the second floor of the mall? Did they move to some other location?

If you are looking for asian stuff there are a couple more options close to pacific mall. There is reliable restaurant supplies at 3477 Kennedy Rd. In the same plaza but around the corner is another supply store. Both are not as huge as tap phong but have good selection still. Things are crowded but its not as hectic as tap phong because the store are pretty empty of people. At Reliable, there is no bargaining however if you pay cash everything is 30% off the listed price. There is a big sign on the window which says this. Prices are good.

ALso market village (right next to pacific mall), has a houseware store which sells a lot of home kitchen stuff.

I still like the Nella on Queen E. Sure Tap Phong is cheap, but the staff's complete lack of knowledge and hostile environment? Well I leave that to others.

Build a relationship with Nella and you can haggle. The prices aren't that bad, though, and the store is well organized, plus the staff is both friendly and knowledgeable.

I second Nella. I have always found staff to be knowledgeable and friendly.
Plus, whenb I go to the Nofrinch Drive store, I love looking at the commercial mixers, etc. (I am a geek) :)

maybe even a little more packed, but better quality and still good prices. plus you don't have that little old lady shoving past you every 5 seconds on her way to stock the shelves. i think she thinks i'm stealing stuff, lol

+1 for Nikolaou. He'll even order things in if you're looking for something he doesn't have stocked. There's also a resto supply on King around Church on the south side, but can't remember the name of it (and it may be closed on weekends).
