Apart from Death & Co, Mayahuel, which cocktail bars are worth checking out while in NY? I've also already tried PDT, Pegu Club, Milk & Honey. On the list include Lani Kai, Clover Club - any thoughts + recommendations appreciated.

if you've already been to milk & honey, i don't know if little branch is worth recommending, but it's one of my favorites. also if you're at all interested in sake bars, decibel is a lot of fun.

i'll also add that if you're into scotch, Highlands and their sister bar Mary Queen of Scots have an absolutely astounding selection

you've got most of the top ones down. in addition, id also recommend raines law room, and if you're into rum, Cienfuegos. if you're wiling to go to brooklyn (with your inclusion of clover club it seems you are) I'd also look at Dram. Finally, I havent been but ive heard good things about silver lining, which is the new offering from the Little Branch + Milk & Honey group.

I love love love Cienfuegos. Mayahuel is also good. Raines is also nice. Silver Lining is new and I was impressed on my first visit.

There is a new Champagne lounge called Winston's which sounds great but for the fact that it's in a hotel so is likely sceney.

I haven't been to Bathtub Gin yet but would like to go.

The five you list are among the best in town.

Lani Kai is very good. See also Flatiron Lounge, sister bar to Clover Club.

Are you open to cocktail programs at restaurants? I am a fan of bar at Eleven Madison Park, bar at Vandaag, Peels, Fatty Cue.

Been spending some good time at Amor y Amargo lately, too.

I also think Dutch Kills (Queens) is very good, maybe better than Little Branch. But M&H is still my favorite in that family.

thanks vm. I was keen to check out the bar at EMP, but wasnt sure if it required reservations?
          Would you recommend Employees Only?
Also, is there anywhere which specialises in bourbon?

The bar at EMP serves more as a restaurant bar. I don't think they even take reservations for the bar area. Many of the people there are waiting for their dinner tables or casually popping in after work.

Generally Employees Only is popular but can get very crowded/packed, especially on weekends. Overall, I think most hardcore mixology nerds would say it's not on the same level as Pegu Club, PDT, Death & Co. They also free pour instead of using jiggers to measure the ingredients, which to many pro bartenders is poor technique.

For bourbon, I really like Idle Hands for more of a dive atmosphere (it's in the basement of Billy Hurricane's), and Brandy Library for a more refined atmosphere.

Thanks Kathryn, much appreciated. I'm adding the Bar @ EMP, and brandy library to the list, and perhaps Amor y Amargo & Cienfugoes, time permitting.

BTW the mixed drinks at Brandy Library aren't that great. But you're into sipping flights of spirits like bourbon, that's a great place to go.
