Upscale dining near Sturbridge, MA?
ooh, this is a major tough call. i can't remember the name of the place in the white pillared greek revival house but it is pretty good and you could get the name from the police- w/ that description- i think. On the north side of rt 20 driving from the mass pike exit to sturbridge village.
Hartford, 3/4 hr- 1 hour away, is much easier. Max Downtown is handsome, consistently v. good, v professional; many other spots in Hartford as well.
I just had dinner at Cedar Street last night. We had the Veal Saltimbocca w/ mushroom risotto, corn fritters, fries and the veg of the day (broc and carrot). The Veal was flavorful and tender and the risotto was creamy with meaty mushrooms. The corn fritter were also improved greatly by the maple butter. The veggies were awful - mushy mushy mushy. The service was good and prices affordable.
I really won't consider this place "upscale" in general, but one does need to take in account the culinary wasteland that is Sturbridge.
Hope this helps!
Still River Cafe in Eastford, CT is not terribly far from Sturbridge and is a first class foodie destination. Unfortunately, they are closed for renovation because of damage from Hurricane Irene. They are supposed to re-open in the Spring I believe so that might still be an option. I would check their website and try and call them to see if there's any update on a reopening date. Great place!
