End of an Era

While far from a foodie choice, the Hamlet and Taproom at Doheney and Sunset is closing in December. I understand it is being turned into 2-3 seperate restaraunts; a mini Sunset Plaza if you will. Tap Room was a classic local bar and the Hamlet has always been there. Kind of sad - unless we get a couple of special new places in its stead.

  1. Looks like they are down to Pasadena and Sherman Oaks on the West Coast. Our local Hamlet was Sepulveda just N of National.

The Hamlet was a trendsetter and Harry and Marilyn Lewis were visionaries when they first opened the original Hamlets. Does everyone remember those omelet pans which flipped when presenting the spinach omelet? Lots of great memories of the Westwood and Brentwood Hamlets. The Lewis' sold out and I believe the next owner was Koo Koo Roo (I could be mistaken). KKR went Chapter 11 and I believe that HH was shifted from corporation to corporation. Too bad.

I do remember the pan. Also (way back) great lobster bidque and as a kid, a killer hot fudge sunday.

I fondly remember the Hamlet on Hollywood Blvd., when we used to visit Hollywood and do the tourist thing.
Loved their Lobster Bisque and Mushroom Burgers.

Does the Lewis family still own Kate Mantilini?

I've been going for the last (at least) 35 years with my family, and the same great waiter- Jim.
Will be enjoying as many meals as I can before the 19th.
