Cocktails in the Mission - need recs please
Hi there,
New to the area and have out of town guests coming to town for the weekend. We have the dinner plans squared away for Saturday night (Delfina) but are looking for a few bars, lounges or beer gardens to visit before and after our dinner. Looking for a place that serves a good cocktail that is not a frat boy super party scene.
Not tied to the Mission for our after dinner cocktail. If you have recs in different neighborhoods, I'll gladly take them too.
Thanks!

I haven't been there, but hear good things about Dalva, specifically Hideout, the "bar within the bar."

re: bbulkow
talk about loud, we walked by that new place i mentioned above - Dr. Teeth and the Electric Mayhem - last night, and it was a total zoo (of course with the word "mayhem" in your name...) made Dalva look sedate and grown up when we walked by there. i wonder where the OP ended up.... as suspected, the crowds were out in full force on a balmy Saturday night.

Locanda has something like 20 kinds of amari. But good luck getting a seat on a Saturday.
Not a great scene, but Elixir has a fine selection.
If you're willing to drive and repark, both Slow Club and Homestead have fine drinks. Slow Club for cocktails, Homestead for the hard stuff.

I second Range.
Beretta is absolutely a scene, unless you get there at 5:00 or something, but even then, on a Saturday....
Garcon has a nice small bar.
I walked into the Lone Palm the other night - weird mix - kinda divey but with white tablecloths. schizo. we didn't stay - went instead to Dovre Club (which is not known for great cocktails (tho they do have liquor), just a good old pubby kinda place with a pool table.)
then there's a new place on Mission - Dr. Teeth and the Electric Mayhem (hate that name) - which looks like a sports bar to me - not my cuppa tea, but may be someone's....
there's also Laszlo, next to Foreign Cinema: http://www.foreigncinema.com/laszlo/
the pic makes it look much snazzier than it is - it's a bit more grungy than that. With the nice weather we're having, every place is going to be packed this weekend...

Bar Bambino, Nombe, and Beretta come to mind for cocktails. The Lone Palm or Doc's Clock for well drinks. The Mission usually needs a back up option just in case your destination happens to be packed with the kind of people you want to avoid.

definitely range for cocktails and maybe an appetizer or two. if you go early enough, the lounge at medjool is great, but it's a total frat scene at night. there's also nihon, although that's further up in the mission, but could be worth it if you also go to zeitgeist (great beergarden, but definitely very grungy and hipster-infested
