Suggestions for Lunch in Tarrytown?
We'll be going up to the Tarrytown area on Saturday and would like a suggestion fro a good place to eat lunch. Good American food would be fine, or Chinese, Italian, Mediterranean, Indain, etc. I'm not wild about cuisine that is mostly just meat or fish, which seems to be the case with Portugese. We would like something not very expensive, around $20. pp would be fine. Any place in Tarrytown or Sleepy Hollow you would recommend? Thanks very much.

Actually, I find Horsefeathers to be ordinary pub food and WAY overpriced! Lefteris is fresh, light, and a much better experience, IMO.

re: scarsdalesurprise
I never understand why people write "the food is fresh".
Do you find many restaurants, that stay in business, where the food ISN'T fresh?Lefteris is just boring.
I can make Hummus at home in about ten minutes.Horsefeathers has a huge menu with lots of choices, and almost all are quite good.
It's hardly fine dining, but it makes no claim to be. As bar food goes, it's good. -
re: scarsdalesurprise
i put down lifters because essentially food is tasteless, boring and a total waste of time and money so if i order a sandwich of some sorts, fries and soda, lets say the check comes to $15, to me its $15 overpriced as the meal is useless.
please explain back of menu at horsefeathers to me, and how you deduce its overpriced, i want to learn-thanks

re: scarsdalesurprise
Two of us had lunch at Horsefeathers a while back and the bill was $86.00 before tax and tip. We drank soda and water and had burgers and a soup, app and maybe a salad. The food was meh.
I got a chuckle when comparing the menu prices below: http://www.westchestertakeout.com/mnu/265/HorseFeathers

But who said you have to order the "back of the menu" items? $10-$12 for a good quality burger or sandwich in any restaurant is not a lot, unfortunately.
I agree that there are items there that seem too expensive for the place, but we never order them. We consider it a place to go for burgers and sandwiches, etc. If we want a porterhouse steak, we are not going to Horsefeathers for it.

re: valerie
No one said you had to order it - I just happen to think it's funny that they have this long list of items that no one ever orders.
Have you tried the burgers and sandwiches at Pete's Tavern in Elmsford? I like them much better. Also, they have fish/chicken/steak platters that are actually pretty reasonable.

If you like the idea of Greek food, I'd recommend going to Santorini in Sleepy Hollow. IMO, better than Lefteris. Was there Friday night, and everything was excellent. Fresh, and reasonably priced. http://santorinigreekrestaurant.com/

Lizbet, I am not a fan of Lefteris and find it mediocre at best. Better albeit not incredible Greek can be found a touch up the road in Sleepy Hollow at Santorini. In Tarrytown I'd highly recommend Tarry Tavern - American.

re: laylag
I second Tarry Tavern, but it may be a little bit higher priced than you would like. Three of us had lunch there today and it was truly satisfying. The appetizer portions were surprisingly generous and really delicious (my chicken liver mousse was silky and luscious). Our entrees were even better: Amazingly tender short ribs (like the best pot roast the world has ever seen) with Parmesan polenta (again, like the world's best cheese grits); and perfectly cooked duck breast with a Forbidden Rice pilaf filled with toasted hazelnuts and over a sunchoke puree. The duck was served with a slightly sweet/tart reduction and I made sure to sop up every bit. We were stuffed but managed a few bites of a perfectly-executed creme brulee. Whoever is in the kitchen deserves a hug. Seriously.

Do a search there are lots of places. For a casual lunch we like Lefteris on the corner of Main street and N Broadway. It is Greek but they have everything from burgers and great fries to Greek specialties.
