Spinoff from great restaurants in Staten Island topic
I've noted that there are far fewer posts regarding restaurants in Staten Island than in the other outer boroughs.
Certainly this will have something to do with having the lowest population of the five, though we are pretty near 500,000. If it were to secede from NYC, it would be the second-largest city in the state.
Or it could be that there just aren't that many Chowhound members in Staten Island.
The default cuisine here is, of course, Italian, but as a default cuisine, that's a pretty good one to have. I wonder why we haven't seen any in-depth comparison of the multitude of good Italian restaurants on the Island. A few names keep coming up (Trattoria Romana, Da Noi, Enoteca Maria, etc.), but there are SO many more. Looking at the Advance, It seems a new one opens at least monthly.
Restaurants here, once they have kept going a few years, seem to become mainstays and have a regular clientele. That could be one reason we keep seeing the same restaurants mentioned over the years. This island doesn't seem the kind of place where some young firebrand chef comes to start something innovative. But since I don't follow the restaurant scene closely, I could be wrong on that.
Anyway, I'm one Chowhound who would love to see more SI restaurant reviews.
