experiences with Sofra catering? other good caterers with Middle Eastern menus?

The menu looks good to me, but I haven't eaten at Sofra OR Oleana.
My parents love Middle Eastern food and we're doing a 70th birthday party for them with drop-off (or pick-up) catering. I wanted something a little fancier than hummus and kebabs and I'll probably supplement with some appetizers etc. Thanks for your help!

  1. Sofra great but pricey. Very high end and generally well executed.

    Arax in Watertown can make WONDERFUL stuff at about 1/3 the price.

    You would not be disappointed with either one.

    1. Where are you located? To Dine For in Hull is wonderful. Funny name for Middle Eastern caterers, but the women who own it are terrific cooks.

      1. I encountered catered food from Sofra at a party a couple weekends ago - it was mighty tasty. Don't remember what exactly there was, but it was quite a spread and nothing was less than very good.

        1. I hired them for a party of 16 at our home end of September. Chose a primarily meat and nut free menu. They were creative , very easy to work with and generous. I asked for dinner ( informal buffet) at 40 pp and we had enough food to feed people for a week. It was totally delicious. Only things I would change are 1) plating fee not worth it as platters were basic plastic and I replated everything as it was way too informal 2) too much bread stuffs. We had lots of dips etc left over but even accounting for that there was too much bread ( crick crax, brioche rolls etc). But a generally great experience. Chef Heather even delivered personally. highly recommend Guests were fascinated by menu.

          1. Thanks everyone, Sofra was a huge hit! We got the chicken with chickpeas / tahini, lamb saganaki, beef kebabs (like kofte) with pistachio. The beef kebabs were the big hit, but the chicken was perfectly moist and tender. We also had the beet tzatziki which people went bonkers over, and the smokey eggplant, which was good but not striking. The lamb meatballs were a little dense, but I liked them. Everything was well-seasoned and beautifully presented. Just one thing: we asked for enough for 50 and they recommended 2 large pans of each main. Our party was 45. We'd made our own apps, sides and salads and another main both for fun and for backup, and STILL we had almost no leftovers. This speaks to how tasty everything was, AND to the appetites of our guests, but my recommendation with Sofra catering is to round up twice.
