10 second review of lunch at the Fish Boutique (Scripps Ranch)

My wife and I had the opportunity to try out the relatively new Fish Boutique in Scripps Ranch (the same shopping center as Trader Joe's). They have a 2-for-1 coupon in the Reader for lunch, so we were curious enough to go a few days ago.

The menu is very short, just a handful of "small plates", soups, salads, sandwiches, and big plates. It seems that they change it up depending on what kind of fish they have available. The sandwiches were in the $10 - $12 range.

We both were drawn to the crab cake sandwich, and it was very good. It looks like they make them in house with what looks to be shredded snow crab leg meat. They have a light breading and are pan fried with a nice crust. There's a ton of crab in them and very little filler. It tasted fresh and definitely not fishy at all.

It came with a side of shoestring fries, which were cooked perfectly with a light dusting of salt and cracked pepper.

All-in-all, we had a very nice meal and will definitely go back.

It's a great deal with the coupon. Of course, now I worry that they'll either start skimping on the food or get rid of the coupon soon...

We stopped in today for a late lunch on our way to Murietta. The food was fresh and tasty and very reasonably priced for the small plates (lunch-sized portions). The fish and chips were made with sea bass per my Mom's request (she's not a big fan of cod) and had a light panko crust -- really nicely done. The salmon burger was a bit thick with the roll, but had great flavor. We all tried my nephew's clam chowder (finally one without bacon) and it had a lot of clams and was really quite flavorful.

The fish market looked really inviting and the place had no fishy odor -- always a good sign. If I lived up in the Mira Mesa/Poway area this would be a regular haunt.

We were going to go to Fish Boutique the other night but the girlfriend insisted she wanted sushi instead so we went to Kappa Sushi which just opened in the same mall as Fish Boutique. I have to say I was fairly impressed with Kappa Sushi, it's not as good as the best sushi places in town, but it is most certainly the best sushi place in the Mira Mesa/Scripps Ranch area. The quality and presentation were very high while prices were reasonable especially if you go during happy hour. I highly recommend it for lunch or dinner if you find yourself in the area.

I've always wondered about Kappa. It's awfully crowded during happy hour and we've never had the patience to wait for a table. Good to know that there's a good sushi option there. We used to go to the sushi place right at the 15 and Carroll Canyon (don't recall their name) and they were good but inconsistent.

And, back to Fish Boutique, we went back and had the crab cake appetizer, which was essentially the same thing as the sandwich minus the bread. Also got the salmon burger which was pretty good as well, very fresh. Still happy with the restaurant. Although, they seem to be awfully empty so I hope they have the cash to last until people find them!

Had the crab cake sandwich which was quite good and for $1 more the clam chowder, which was delicious..
DH had the Ahi sandwich...said it was ok.
Used the 2 for 1 coupon...
We had to eat and run since the noise and obnoxious behavior from one of the employee's kid, was just too much to take.

Thanks for the reviews of this pretty new place. I will try! I'm in that Joe's a few times a month. Too bad they don't have the flatbread space a couple of doors down - food there seems sorta eh meh.

I walked by the Fish Boutique a couple of times and looked in the window but so far I haven't stopped in to eat though. I have added Bruski's (a few doors down from Fish Boutique) to my list of regular lunch or dinner restaurants as it's right by my house and they have great burgers and beer. Both of these restaurants seem like good additions to the Scripps Ranch/Mira Mesa area.

I heard the chef is CIA trained. She makes some great food, haven't had anything bad here yet. We are going through the menu, but don't use the two for one coupon any more; it just seems tacky.

The fish market prices are not inexpensive, but the product is always very fresh. The 'to go' menu from the fish market offers some great deals. The to-go crabmeat spinach quiche was really wonderful.
