November dining vacation suggestions.

I will be arriving Nov-17th early and leaving late on the 19th. I am staying at the W Downtown and will be traveling with 6 people and possibly meeting up with another 2-6 friends while in NYC. Thursday night I want to do EMP for a party of 6-8, I want to know if this is realistic and on Friday it is my friends birthday so the group will be larger. What would you recommend for a Friday dining spot for a group possibly as large as 10? This trip started off with just 2 couples and morphed into a much larger group which is throwing me off. Initially, I wanted to do Brushstroke, Catch or Marc Forgione's on Friday, but with a group this big I am sure I need to come up with another plan. Any suggestions will be greatly appreciated.

  1. I've seen parties of 6 there, but I personally have never seen a group of 8, at least in the main dining room. Is the private room a possibility? This is a situation where it is best to call and ask EMP directly, especially before the "28 days in advance" booking window opens up.

For your large group meal on Friday, are they all meat eaters? Any people allergic to fish/seafood? You could do a large format meat feast like the Bo Ssam at Ssam Bar or the whole suckling pig at the Breslin. Or the chef's table at the John Dory or the whole bass at Oceana.

Another possibility is a big Chinese banquet type feast somewhere, like South China Garden or Amazing 66.

    Eleven Madison Park
11 Madison Ave., New York, NY 10010

    South China Garden
22 Elizabeth St, New York, NY 10013

    Momofuku Ssam Bar
    207 2nd Ave, New York, NY 10003

    Amazing 66
66 Mott St, New York, NY 10013

    120 W 49th St, New York, NY 10020

    The Breslin
    20 W 29th St, New York, NY 10001

    The John Dory Oyster Bar
1196 Broadway, New York, NY 10001

    1. For the Friday dinner for 10 guests, Tocqueville might be able to accomodate you without requiring a private room. Telepan and Hearth also have semi private rooms for large parties.

For something more casual, try DBGB, Empellon, Boqueria, or Nuela.

You should book sooner than later though - a lot of restaurants have restrictions for parties larger than six.
