NORTH END: Chances of getting into Neptune Oyster or Daily Catch?

I'm hoping some North End regulars can give me some advice. Four of us are going out for my birthday dinner in the North End tonight. From what I've read, Neptune Oyster and Daily Catch both sound like places we'd like.

My question is, will we be able to walk into either of those places at around 6:30 on a Thursday night and get a table? We'll be leaving our small kids with a babysitter so we can't be out too late.

The alternative is to make a reservation somewhere else. I was thinking Mamma Maria or Lucca, but I'm honestly a lot more excited about the first two places.

So what do you all think? Will we get in? If not, any suggestions of where else to go? (I've done my best to read the recent threads on the NE).

I would try the catch over Neptune. There is always the possibility of a wait. The daily catch is worth the wait.

I can't imagine you'll have to wait very long (if at all) at the Daily Catch on a Thursday at 6:30. There will be a wait for sure at Neptune, but it shouldn't be too outrageous.

Thanks everyone. Ultimately, we decided we needed a place that takes reservations. We ended up going to Vinoteca di Monica and loving it. The ravioli was some of the best I've ever had.

Not sure if you'll be able to walk in, but at 6:30, there shouldn't be a long wait. The early crowd is finishing and tables will be turning. Last time I went (for lunch), they said it would be 40 minutes and they called within 5 minutes.

Haven't been to Neptune, but I hear it does fill up fast (no reservations), so you may have to wait a while. If you wanted to stay w/seafood, see if you can get a reservation for Island Creek Oyster Bar instead.
