Corvallis- heritage turkey needed

Greetings to the PNW board and thanks in advance for your help- we are traveling to Corvallis for Thanksgiving and, left to their own devices, our family up there will subject us to the frozen mega-breast supermarket turkeys. If we drive I can bring a turkey from my usual source up from Oakland, but that may not happen.

Where can I find a heritage turkey in or near Corvallis? An advanced chowsearch turned up nothing. A google search turned up Afton Field Farm- I emailed them, but they are out of the country until next month. Perhaps there's a meat counter that stocks Mary's heritage birds?

Please help this 'hound dodge the butterball!

Hi! Sorry for the late reply ` just read your post.
New Seasons' Market, in the Portland area, has heritage turkeys - you can call or order on line. It's about 100 miles from Corvallis, so it isn't really close, but I'll bet most local farms have sold their turkeys already, do it's a doable option if nothing else comes up.
Also, I buy lamb from Bald Hill Farm in Corvallis, they may know where you can find local turkeys (sorry - don't have their number, but you could Google it).
Good luck finding your turkey. Have a safe and happy trip to the great PNW. Happy Thanksgiving!

Thank you so much Teener- I will be driving our heritage bird up from Oakland this year, but will keep your suggestions in mind for the future (and maybe check out Bald Hills Farm for some lamb as well!).

      Happy Thanksgiving!

Wheew! I am breathing a sigh of relief as I read that you have "dodged the 'ball" ! I tried to get a heritage bird this year but got way too late a start. We'll have to suffer through an organic pasture-raised turkey this year... ;-)
