Fun dinner spots in Central Sq or Theater District?

b

Planning a night out with a group of about 10 folks. We want something fun, hip, casual with good food and cocktails, but not too pricey; reservations essential. Will likely hit a comedy show after (either Nick's Comedy Stop off Stuart St. or ImprovBoston on Prospect in Cambridge - we've all done ImprovAsylum a bunch). Any advice on restaurants to consider? Was thinking maybe East Coast Grill or Rendezvous in Central, or Stoddard's or 49 Social dowtown - any feedback on those?

Green Street meets your criteria and is two blocks from ImprovBoston.

I really like Central Kitchen (best, though not most traditional, steak frites I've had in Boston). And it's much more Central Square then East Coast Grill. I'd also mention Hungry Mother if it doesn't have to be in Central.

I was thinking about Central Kitchen, but couldn't load the dinner menu online to see what options/prices are like. Any guidance?

Whoa, that website is a mess. I think it has worked in the past.

If I recall correctly, apps run in the $10-15 range and entrees from low 20's to 30. Not super cheap, but the food is good and the portions generous (I believe the steak frites is $27). Usually 4-5 app choices and 6-7 entrees.

It does. I was also going to suggest seeing if reserving through savored.com (getting a 40% discount) would work for you, but it appears that CK is no longer part of that.

I'm a Rendezvous fan. They are always friendly and take (and promptly honor) reservations. Were it not for the cholesterol thing, I could eat their charcuterie platter every night!

ECG is great--I've eaten there many times and never had a disappointing meal. But all of the seafood entrees will be in the $24-28 range, just so you're aware. Also, no reservations on Fri and Sat.

Ah, thanks for the tip re: reservations. We'd be going on a Sat and would def need a reservation for our size group.

i like both of the central square choices though ECG is about one mile from the central square T stop. i would add Cragie on Main though some people feel that there is an attitude there; i definitely do not feel that way.
