Friday - Midtown Foodie

Hi, i have a foodie friend visiting this weekend and i'm looking for a midtown foodie restaurant for an early dinner. Ideally, somewhere between Central Park South, 51st Street and the middle of Times Square and maybe not lower than Grand Central. I know this doesn't leave for many choices but because of luggage, etc logistics this is the area we have to work with.

I made a reservation for Ma Peche thinking maybe we could eat only apps but i'm not sure if that will work...any suggestion, we don't want to spend more than $50 per person with/without tax/tip. Food wise, i'm leaning more towards asian flavors but it doesn't really matter, we need a good a meal that you can only get in NYC.

  1. Ma Peche is an excellent choice, and one of my favorite "foodie" restaurants in NYC. I highly recommend the cold fried chicken salad with pickled watermelon and beer foam--fantastic dish! Also highly recommend the scallops with coffee. I love the juliet steak with the rice fries; it is served med/rare, has a generous amount of fat (love it), and is full of flavor. The rice fries are made to look like traditional steak fries, and are also yummy! The chocolate dessert is so worth breaking any diet, and is my favorite Momofuku dessert of all of the restaurants. If you still have room after dinner, I love the chocolate malt soft serve milkshake upstairs at Milk Bar; it brings back memories of my father's wonderful chocolate malteds--miss them.

Appetizers are mid-teens, and main dishes are mid-20s.

In my experience, Ma Peche offers some of the best taste/price ratios in the city -- for lunch or dinner. You can spend a lot at diinner if you want to, but you can also eat very well on a budget. As for lunch, it's almost impossible to spend too much.
