Anyone know where I can buy these retail? I would like to make a killer tortellini with Foie Gras terrine.

      Try Cavaillon. From today's UT.

        Thanks. Good tip.

Foie Gras, Du Puy Lentils, Bacon, and Quail Egg is something that should be served at 50 restaurants in san diego.

It is too bad Cavaillon probably takes more travel time to get to than Las Vegas.

You're not the first to ask this question, and I was wondering same. It would appear we are better off doing mail order.

Or possibly try someplace called Iowa Meat Farms.

You could try it here :http://www.sandiegan.com/euro-food-de...

For some reasons their regular webpage isn't working in the moment.

Thanks for that link. On my browser, the chowhound url appears before the shop's url when I click on the link. I just deleted everything before "http://www.sandiegan..." and it worked ok.

Specialty Produce carries truffles when they're in season.

Iowa Meat Farms may have foie gras. You should call ahead.

There a number of them, just to name a few: Avenue 5, Smoking Goat, Cowboy Star, Market, Kitchen 1540, Cavaillon, George's, Farmhouse Cafe etc.

Add Tapenade and Wine Sellar and Brasserie. I've seen whole lobes in the meat case at Bristol Farms during the hoildays.

I scored a black summer truffle from the mushroom vendor at the Vista Farmers Market, it was just good not great.

$40 I think, might have been $60, little smaller than a golf ball.

I didn't see it on the menus for Avenue 5, Smoking Goat or Farmhouse Cafe.

Is it something they serve "every once in a while"?

Some of these have it often as frequent specials, e.g. Farmhouse Cafe, Smoking Goat, some of them have it always on the menu, e.g. Avenue 5

In my experience there are quite a number of restaurants that serve foie gras, but you need to check each restaurant individually as it tends to be an item that comes on and off the menus regularly. Working from my (admittedly weak) memory I'd check Blanca, 1540, Addison, AR Valentein as possibilities.

And, be mindful that there are less than 9 months until only outlaw restaurants will serve foie gras in CA!!!!!

I think Blanca has closed to relocate. If it hasn't it will shortly.

July 2012 it is banned if it was produced using the force-feeding method.

And "force feeding" is really the only way to make foie gras.

                                Strong reason to leave california.

At least they are enforcing the jay walking laws.
