A sunday night in November in San Francisco

  • 2

Looking for a restaurant that's somewhat near Market & 3rd (or within 10 minute cab ride) for a great dinner on a Sunday. Last year ate at SPQR which was very good. Wondering whether there's a new option this year.

  1. Bluestem Brasserie is new and is on Market near 4th--the food isn't as good as SPQR, though. Cotogna, at the corner of Pacific and Montgomery is not far and is an excellent Italian restaurant with the same ownership as the very high end Quince, next door. Park Tavern, in North Beach across from Washington Square Park, is brand new and has nice ambience--have been there only once and liked the food. SPQR, though, is one of my favorites and my wife and I go there about every other month.

Went to Park Tavern last Sunday night and thoroughly enjoyed it. Was a bit chilly, but we chose to sit outside (we were walkups and the choice was to wait an hour, take a hightop inside, or a two top outside). Heat lamp did a decent job as did a sweater. Service was great, food was even better (although they ran out of the item my wife wanted), and the house made beef jerky (for $6 you get a bunch!) was the best I've had in a long time.
