Where To Lunch--Smithfield

My ladies group is planning on visiting the Ava Gardner museum in November and would like a "ladies who lunch" place in Smithfield. My research didn't bring up much. I was thinking Holt's BBQ would work, but thought I would check with the Chowhounds to be sure I'm not missing anything. Since our group is usually about 12 in number, we need to be able to make reservations.

Thanks.

How fun! Ava was the best.

Can't help you with recs. Maybe naco will weigh in.

I haven't been to Smithfield in a couple of years, unfortunately. I think Meatn3 has recommended a fried chicken place there, but I forget the name. Although while I can't say for sure, nothing about "fried chicken joint in Smithfield" particularly screams "ladies' lunch" to me.

The chicken place (The Chicken Barn) is now attached to a gas station...not really screaming ladies lunch to me either. Even in it's old location it was a fast food atmosphere.

I have seen a few places that might work, near a theater downtown IIRC. But I get over there so seldom that the chicken place usually is my stop.

I have seen several places in Selma that look likely. The downtown area has a few spots. Unfortunately, I have not tried them. But Selma is perhaps 10 min. North of Smithfield and full of antique stores if that has any interest.

Panski, perhaps a call to the museum could lead to some options. I've seen a number of groups plan day trips to the museum, so I would think they have had feedback on lunch spots.

Selma would probably be just the ticket. Most of what I recall seeing downtown the last time I was there tended toward being more upscale. There was even a taqueria with cloth napkins.

Thanks all for the good feedback. I knew about the Chicken Place but agree that it didn't seem like a place to take the ladies (though I sure hope I can get there on my own sometime). I think Selma is a great idea--I haven't been for quite a while, but remember having a very nice lunch at one of the places downtown. And antique shops are always a plus. I'm headed to New Bern in a couple of weeks and can plan a stop in Selma to check things out, but will also check with the museum. Good idea.

Please post back regarding what you find. Selma and Smithfield don't get many reports, yet they are spots which would be so easy for travelers on I-95 to stop for a bite.
