Birthday dinner indecision - Michael's or Bouchon?

Small dinner with friends... trying to make use of Dine LA... thoughts, perspectives or other ideas? Haven't been to Bouchon - just afraid that it's a bit staid and 'granny'. Michael's is comfortable but just wondering if it's a bit tired. Thanks...

Ended up going to LA BOTTE, which was superb. Octopus carpaccio was fantastic - tender, with just the right toothsomeness and ocean quality witha bright vinaigrette. Quail with sage and proscuitto was earthy, meaty and gamey in just the right way. Pasta with sea urchin and breadcrumbs was creamy, crunchy and very satisfying. Plus, if you order off the Taste LA menu there is free corkage - a huge bonus right now. So, some of us ordered from the very good set menu (all my dishes were from it) while others ordered ala carte of the regular menu and we brought a bottle of red and white and had a fabulous meal in a great, grown-up room. We Hadn't been here for a couple of years but it was just as good then. This place is a gem, imo.

Wait - free corkage at La Botte? Are you sure? I brought wine in there years ago and was told they don't recognize bring in wine. Did you actually bring in wine? This is good to know.

Yes, you heard that right. Free corkage IF you order the Taste LA menu, which is excellent. I brought two bottles. Irony of ironies, I brought a bottle that is even on their list! I hope to go back before this expires on Friday.

I like the atmosphere at Bouchon's a lot...but unfortunately, the food has never really impressed me and I really, really wanted to love it given Bouchon's reputation.

I would think Michael's is a little more "staid" than Bouchon. But the patio is lovely....

Cant speak specifically to Dine LA but Michael's patio is such a great place to eat especially when the weather is good.

You can eat well at both but just prefer the setting at Michael's.
