I'm curious and confused about Susur Lee's restauant(s). Is is Lee? Is is Madeline? Is it worth the trek downtown?

Actually fD isn't correct. There is no Madeline as it was shuttered maybe a yr ago. There is Lee and Lee Lounge which now occupy the full space. There are no longer multiple restaurants.

Lee is great food. If you have never been, it is a treat and worth the trip for sure. The rooms are very nice too. My only gripe about it is that the menu has not changed in ages. That being said, the stand out dishes are just as good as always and continue to pack the place. Lee is packed with both regulars and newcomers as it is not just a tourist attraction. It is real food, real dining and really good!

Are there other great places, and better places in Toronto? Of course. That can be said about any choice. But Lee is far above average.

The Lee Lounge menu is different than the Lee menu and that's certainly new since it opened in February. Lee and Madelaine used to be two separate restaurants next door to each other. They knocked down the wall between them and one side is now Lee (same as before) and the other side is the more casual and cheaper Lounge.

Have you been before and after iMarilyn? It is not true that there are two sides like that, one casual, cheap, and one the original. 70-80% of the new space is the same menu as the original and the same fine table service as the original. It is truly just an extension. In fact in some ways it is nicer than the original.

Lee Lounge offers a new menu but it is confined to the small lounge area of the new side to the restaurant and IMO not intended for a full sit down meal so for sure not worth the trek down.

I can also confirm that the menu is identical in the main part of the 'extension' (formerly Madeline's). Prices are identical. Service has declined.

Service is all of Susur's restaurants, from Lotus to Susur to present, has never been top-notched. He should take a page from the old Splendido!

The place is a joke. Was there Saturday...bathrooms got the old $.99 pump Softsoap dispenser, paper hand towels in a high-school style towel holder...for $250 bucks before tip for 6 drinks and a few plates shared between 3 people, I'd expect way more than just the flavours of cilantro, lemongrass and cumin. As with most name places in this town, a joke. And I'll get run down because I obviously missed the point, but give me a break. There are no nuances, no hints, no 'play on Chinese'. it was $hit and a rip off.

He was there though - seems pleasant.

I unfortunately have to agree with bb1969 -- have been there twice over the past few months and it was overpriced and nothing special. I'm saddened to be writing this too, given Susur's legacy and the great meals he made for me (several years ago). Maybe with Shang gone he can eventually get back on track? We'll have to see.
