Friday night in Great Barrington without a reservation?

For all sorts of boring, logistical reasons my husband and I are probably going to want dinner in Great Barrington or not too far out of town on Friday night but may not know exactly what time until more or less the last minute, which makes it hard to make a reservation. So is there anywhere really yummy as opposed to merely acceptable that we're likely to be able to walk into around 7:30 or 8 and get a table without a crazy long wait? He doesn't eat red meat, so somewhere where he can get chicken or fish, but other than that, we'll be totally flexible on type of food.

Please note, it's not that I'm not willing to do my research and figure out which are the good restaurants, I'm just trying to figure out what meets our logistical needs, which is harder to do from the posts.

  1. The holiday weekend has come and gone...youCAN get in pretty much anywhere. My first choice would be Cafe definitely need to make a reservation for any given Saturday night there, but, I would think by 8:00 on a Friday, there would be a very short wait, if at all. And the fish choice are ALWAYS pretty good. There is a chicken dish on the menu, also, and the daily specials are interesting.

    1. Eat at 20 Railroad. No reservation needed. Order the vietnamese spring rolls (Jaques Pepin has raved about them). Thank me later.

When I had the spring rolls they when disgustingly greasy.

      2. Really at this point in the fall you should be ok at most places without a reservation. Berkshires are an early-eating kind of place so even on a Friday now that summer is over 8 pm should be no problem.

Agree in G. Barrington itself Cafe Adam is probably your best bet for good food. Or if you are willing to drift up to W. Stockbridge you could go to Rouge and eat at the bar.

        1. I agree that Cafe Adam is an excellent choice. Their service--sluggish in the past--has improved and their food is very good. I highly recommend it. I also agree that Rouge is an excellent choice. Eat where you can choose from the "tapas" menu. Really good, real good prices, and an excellent pour with wine by the glass. My wife and I love both of these places. We also really liked Fiori this summer. Fiori's bartender, Jesse, makes great cocktails with housemade infusions and the bar menu is very good.
