Drinks near WD-50

I have early dinner reservations for WD-50 on Friday with a friend from out of town and want to take him to great place or two for drink afterwards. Would prefer something low-key (i.e. NOT super loud and crowded) with interesting cocktails that's walking distance or so from the restaurant. Any ideas?

  1. If you walk north to the East Village you'll have many options:
Louis 649 -- cute little place but I've not done it on a Friday but I don't know how bad the crowds will be
Summit Bar -- might be a little loud/crowded
PDT -- make reservations in advance, other you can't get in, but at least that means it's not too crowded
Death & Co -- it can get loud but it's never crowded since they don't allow standing
El Cobre/Cienfuegos/Amor y Amargo -- I was here on Saturday around 8pm and it wasn't too bad, Cienfuegos was actually pretty chill save for an obnoxious bachelor party next to us. Do note the other two allow standing so it can become crowded quickly. Especially since Amor y Amargo is small
Mayahuel -- no standing, never seems too loud or crowded IMO
Vandaag -- technically the bar of a restaurant but walking past this last Saturday it didn't look too packed, only a handful of people at the bar
Momofuku Bar Bar -- most people drinking here are waiting for tables at Ssam
Peels -- try the 2nd floor bar

    1. Kathryn's recs are great, per usual, but wd-50 mixes up some of my most favorite cocktails in the city—on par with any of the bars mentioned. I'd happily sit at the bar after dining there for a cocktail or two. Just a thought.

      1. elsa makes great cocktails, on 3rd street btw. ave b and ave c

        1. You should definitely consider staying at WD-50, as it would satisfy your desire for a great cocktail at a not-too crowded spot. Also could try White Star, a Sasha Petraske place that flies under the radar, very low-key compared to his other spots. If you're willing to walk north to East Village, you could try Angel's Share, though it may be hard to get a seat.

Petraske is no longer at White Star:

Embarrassingly, just realized that you had corrected me on this before! Shows how much I get out for drinks nowadays. Thanks for the correction.

However! I recently learned that the ex-barman (Sother Teague) from Rye in Williamsburg is now tending bar at White Star (in addition to Amor y Amaro and El Cobre). I've not visited him there yet but I believe a return visit is now in order. He's there Tuesdays and Fridays.
