gastropub(s) in Indy?

What are the choices for good beer and good food in the same place?

  1. The restaurant search on the Indianapolis Monthly dining guide website gives five results in the gastropub category:

    Barley Island Restaurant and Brewhouse
    Brugge Brasserie
    Chatham Tap restaurant and Pub
    MacNiven's Restaurant and Bar
    Tavern on South

They also consider Black Swan Brewpub in Plainfield in the category:

Perhaps anyone who has been to any of them (or any other gastropub around town) can provide an opinion...?

    Barley Island Brewing Co
639 Conner St, Noblesville, IN 46060

    MacNivens Restaurant
339 Massachusetts Ave, Indianapolis, IN 46204

    Brugge Brasserie
    1011 E Westfield Blvd, Indianapolis, IN 46220

    Chatham Tap
719 Massachusetts Ave, Indianapolis, IN 46204

    Tavern on South
    423 W South St, Indianapolis, IN 46225

    Black Swan Brewpub
2067 Hadley Rd, Plainfield, IN 46168

    1. Black Market on Mass. Ave is very good. Just down the street Ball & Bisquit is a very good, too, but mor of a cocktail and small plate place.

      1. What side of town will you be on? Scotty's Lakehouse near the Geist reservoir is my choice of good food and good beer all in one place.

        1. I would try the Broad Ripple Brewpub. The owner, John Hill, is from the UK and his goal with the BRBP has been to recreate the British pub experience. They brew great beer on the premises and also offer microbrews by the bottle. They have interesting specials on the menu that change weekly, and a significant number of vegetarian and vegan choices as well.
