Apple Picking via Regional Rail?

  • 2

I have a burning autumnal yen to go apple picking (and if there happened to be a corn maze, a pumpkin patch, or a hayride involved, I wouldn't say no). Apple cider doughnuts are a must.

The problem is, I don't have a car, and I don't really want to get a zipcar for a whole afternoon. Can anyone point me in the direction of an orchard I can get to via some sort of public transit? Regional Rail? NJ Transit?

Thanks!

  1. The closest U pick apple orchard I could think of in Bucks County is Styer Orchards. You can take the R3 West Trenton line to Woodbourne, and then its under a mile walk from the station to the Orchards. They have the requisite apple picking, a farm store and bakery with fresh cider doughnuts. They do have u pick pumpkins as well, not sure about mazes or hayrides.

To check out the route, use google maps for directions, and 97 Styers Lane as the address and select Public Transit. The orchard has a website at http://styerorchard.com.

There are some others up here in Doylestown, but the distance from the train/bus drop off is considerably further.

Perhaps some others have some other suggestions in Montgomery County.

Good luck and I hope you are able to find an orchard that is convenient for you.

There's also Linvilla, but I'm not sure how easy it would be to get to via public trans. Can take the Media/Elwyn line to Elwyn and then pick up bus 117. It doesn't go down Knowlton Road, but it might stop at the intersection of 352 (the road it travels) and Knowlton. If it does, it's about a half mile to the orchard from there. If you look them up on Google Maps, it's 137 West Knowlton Road, Media, PA.

      Good luck!
