Suggestions for 50th Birthday Dinner in Central NH?
Hi,
I live in Concord, but would be happy to travel to Portsmouth, Manchester, Nashua or places in between to celebrate my 50th birthday in a couple of weeks with a buddy of mine. Any suggestions? Am looking for yummy comfort-type food, a good lemon drop martini, and a festive atmosphere! :)
Thoughts I've had:
Cotton in Manchester (haven't been there since the early 2000's, so no idea what it's like now)
MT's Local Kitchen & Wine Bar in Nashua (never been)
Green Monkey or Black Trumpet in Portsmouth
Open to suggestions!
Thanks!

If you're looking at Portsmouth, I would suggest Mambo, Ristorante Massimo, Wellington Room, Brazo (sister restaurant of the Green Monkey) as well as the two you had listed. All are fantastic and can give you specifics about each if needed.

I guess depends on your definition of comfort food. In Concord I personally go to Sunny's Table for special occasions, but they have a slightly Asian flair in many dishes on the menu (Korean, Indian) and a good wine list (the current Malbec is great). It was a little too spicy for my 60ish mother there. They are only open Wed-Sat during fall now too.
(besides the places you mentioned which I agree would be good choices)
If you are thinking steak, seafood, a little bit fancy preparation and martinis then Granite Restaurant would be good. It's a good special occasion atmosphere. I know they have martinis, but I just checked online and they don't list any special martinis except on their dessert menu. They do have an extensive wine list, with some good wines available by the glass. They won't rush you out either.

It is a good special occasion place, nice manly dark wood library atmosphere, a very traditional steak house with good quality preparation. Nothing nouveau, very classic. Their lounge bar area is Old English Style Pub decor. You would enjoy their almost 100 different specialty martinis.

I had my 50th celebration at Granite in Concord and loved it. We had a room with a big table that sat maybe 16 (+/-). I remember fabulous food, fabulous drinks (but was a few years ago). My favs have been mentioned but on my list to try (since many are talking greatness) - XO and Mint Bistro in Manchester.

Matt Provencher (formerly of Richard's Bistro) is opening Delux in a couple of weeks and the food should be excellent. 36 Lowell St Manchester. The menu at Cotton is exactly the same as it was the last time you were there. We had a fantastic meal at Mombo in Portsmouth last month. Surf is the seafood outpost of Michael Timothy's--there's one in Nashua and a new one in Portsmouth. Often overlooked but quite nice is the Hanover Street Chophouse in Manchester for great martinis, oysters and steak.
